Kelowna scores first five goals in route of Chiefs to bounce back from loss Saturday to Seattle

After a quiet night Saturday against Seattle, the Kelowna Rockets’ offense was alive and well Sunday against the Spokane Chiefs.

Reid Gardiner scored twice and added two assists, while Rodney Southam and Carsen Twarynski each scored a pair as the Rockets downed the hometown Chiefs 9-5.

The Rockets (37-21-5-0) have scored 30 goals in their last four games, which included an 8-2 victory Friday in Kamloops against the Blazers.

Nick Merkley, Devante Stephens and Dillon Dube also scored for the Rockets, who jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the opening period and led 7-0 before the Chiefs fought back with five of the next six goals.

The Rockets moved to within a point of the Blazers for second in the BC division and six back of first place Prince George. Kelowna has a game in hand on both teams.

The Rockets, who have won 10 of their last 13 games (10-2-1-0) will host Prince George Wednesday night.
