Rockies spoil Rockets home opener

It was a tough way to start the season for the Golden Rockets.

The Golden Rockets let their first game of the new Kootenay International Junior Hockey League season slip through their fingers against the Columbia Valley Rockies.

The Rockets started out strong and an early goal from Carson George gave the team a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

The second period saw the Rockets jump out to s 3-1 lead with goals from Conner Beauchemin and Blake Roney. However before the end of the second frame the Rockies scored two more goals in 59 seconds to tie things up heading into the third.

Once again the Rockets started off strong with Beauchemin netting his second goal of the game only 46 seconds into the third. The Rockets looked to have the game well in hand when Daniel Dahlin scored with just over 8 minutes left in the game.

This is where the Rockies stormed back starting with a power play goal by James Price and then shortly after the game was tied up when Ryan Henderson scored. With less than three minutes left in the game the Rockies completed the com back when Stephen Pratt scored.

After the game Head Coach of the Rockets Ty Davidson said, “There was twice in the game where we had two goal leads and failed to clamp it down. We should have easily won that game. We were the better team the whole game. We lacked a fire and intensity to close it out.”
