Tyson Roe scored his first goal of the Western Lacrosse Association season on a breakaway in front of a hometown crowd, but it wasn’t enough to get the Nanaimo Timbermen past the Maple Ridge Burrards as the teams clashed in a regular-season senior A lacrosse tilt at the Island Savings Centre last Sunday.
Roe’s goal at 17:33 of the first period got the T-Men within a goal, and they went to the first intermission trailing 5-4. They wouldn’t get any closer than that, however, and the Burrards ended up winning 16-10 for their first victory of the season.
Two other Cowichan residents also got into the action: Hugh Weir finished with an assist, while Myles Kenny had two penalty minutes.
Brody Eastwood led the T-Men with three goals and two assists. The Burrards were paced by Connor Goodwin, with three goals and six assists, Nick Stone, with a goal and seven helpers, and Dan Taylor, with four goals and three assists.
After starting the season with back-to-back wins over the Victoria Shamrocks, the T-Men have now lost four in a row (including a defeat in Burnaby on Tuesday) and sit fourth in the WLA.
