The Island Barrel Racers had another great turnout for their race last month at the Linda Innes Arena in Oyster River.
A total of 25 riders competed in three age groups with a growing crowd of spectators cheering them on. The top riders were: in the Open group 1D Leslie Pederson from Black Creek riding Dee, 2D Launda Crossman from Victoria on Leelu, 3D went to Sue Sheppard from Coombs riding Sugar, 4D was won by Severin Pederson from Black Creek riding Mercedes.
In the Junior division 1D went to Morgan Davis from Courtenay riding Lena, 2D Meaghan Bergman from Black Creek on Lady and 4D went to Hayley Green from Port Alberni riding Sadie.
The Senior division’s winners were 1D Leslie Pederson on Dee, 3D went to Sue Sheppard on Sugar and 4D went to Carole Herman from Courtenay on Justin.
The racers were back at Linda Innes’ Arena in Oyster River on May 12 (results unavailable by press time).
The Island Barrel Racers have a series of events planned for the Coombs Rodeo Grounds May 26 and June 2–3, then they come to Port Alberni June 23–24 for the second annual Bill Jefferys Memorial event.
