Ross lifts NET

Young superstar Nathan Whitling proved he is ready to make a name for himself at the men’s level.

Veteran Graham Ross is hardly ready for oldtimers soccer. Young superstar Nathan Whitling proved he is ready to make a name for himself at the men’s level.

Both players made an impact as the North Enderby Timber grounded the Monashee Surveying FC 4-2 in North Okanagan Soccer League action Wednesday night at Marshall Field #5.

NET opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Ross, their longest-serving member, took a pass from Greg Poggemoeller, turned and from 30 yards, curled an outswinging corner top shelf.

Monashee tied it when Whitling broke down and chipped the goalkeeper.

Zach Sharp fed Whitling in the corner and he beat a defender and calmy deposited it top corner.

The Timber tied it up seconds before the half when Jesse Knight walked in from the back line and curled a shot in from 20 yards.

NET took the lead in the second half after some excellent work from Ross down the wing. Ross deked a defender and passed it in to big Dan Aikema, who layed it off to Brent Poulsen for the tap in.

Poulsen added an insurance marker in the 75th minute.  Receiving a dynamite ball from newcomer Devin Laughren, Poulsen outran the defence, walked around the keeper and calmly slotted it home.

Turn-Key Controls welcomed back Andrew Pool as they ambushed Peters Tirecraft/Concept Physio 6-1 at Marshall #2.

Pool scored four times while Chris Jahnig and Conan Ackert added singles.

Jahnig started the scoring from a great defensive run, while Ackert produced a self-driven goal from a short goal kick, battling a defender and delivering a rocket top cheese.
