A local 10-year-old is ranking third in the Zone 1 West Koonteay Junior Golf Circuit.
Following the fifth event of the circuit on Saturday, Xander Bankes of Rossland was sitting at third for the circuit, with a total of 113 points. Bankes is behind Nic Jenner of Castlegar with 141 points and Ely Overennay, also from Casltegar, with 190 points.
Points awarded based on a player’s overall placing for each event; those who have participated in more events have naturally had more chances to earn points.
The overall low gross winner for Saturday’s event at Champion Lakes was Aidan Browell of Fruitvale, who shot a 75 on his home course. He narrowly beat out Overennay, who shot a 77. It was Browell’s first overall low gross win of the season, and only Overennay’s second time short of the top spot.
Overennay took first in the age 15 and up category (also Browell’s category, but winning overall excludes a player from winning in their age category).
In the 14 and under category, Will Watt from Castlegar took first place with a score of 83; his first win of the season in his age category. Second place went to Nic Jenner, also from Castlegar, who shot 84.
