Rossland Royals take fourth at provincials

The Rossland Secondary Senior Girls soccer team had their best ever finish at the Single A Provincial Championships in Kelowna last weekend.

The Rossland Secondary Senior Girls soccer team had their best ever finish at the Single A Provincial Championships in Kelowna this past weekend. They ended the tournament as the top public school and finished in fourth overall.

The Royals finished their round robin pool in first, beating Ashcroft 10-0, Kelowna Christian 7-1 and Langley Christian 4-1.

They played Glenlyon Norfolk, last year’s provincial champions, in the semi-finals, losing 5-3. That put them into the bronze medal game. There they faced their toughest and fastest competition, host Immaculata, losing 4-0.

Coach Rick McKinnon said he couldn’t be prouder of the team who stuck together for many years and were the talk of the tournament, with their tenacious play and ball movement. Their record of 23 wins, four ties and two losess for the season gives the team a lot to be proud of
