Rossland snowboarder wins Freeride World Qualifier at Canadian Open Freeride Championships

The Canadian Open Freeride Championships wrapped up Wednesday at Red Mountain.

The Canadian Open Freeride Championships wrapped up Wednesday at Red Mountain with the 2* Freeride World Qualifier event and a Rosslander took the top spot for men’s snowboarding.

Jamie Rizutto took first place with a final score of 59.03, followed by American Zachary Bare with a score of 58.03 and American Josh Hirschman with a score of 57.53.

A Canadian also claimed the top spot for women’s snowboarding.

Terra Samson of Cowichan Bay placed first with a score of 54.47.

Americans Dana Miraglia and Ellie Orr took second and third place respectively with scores of 48.90 and 46.10.

In skiing, Jackson Bathgate from Whistler took first place for the men with a score of 62.67.

Mitchell Long, also from Whistler, took second with 62.43 and American Tyler Curle took third with 61.43.

American Cammy Hursh placed first for the women with 58.87, followed by Nelson’s Chandrima Lavoie with a score of 58.50.

Fernie’s Andrea Byrne placed third with 58.47.
