It wasn’t a pretty three days for Lynden Jeffrey at the 2013 Juvenile Boys and Girls’ Championship.
However, the 16-year-old golfer from 108 Mile Ranch is looking to put that tournament behind him and has his sights set on the Cariboo Open, which goes at the 108 Golf Resort, Aug. 30-Sept. 1.
“It was not my week. I didn’t play good at all,” Jeffrey says of the Juvenile Championship at the Crown Isle Golf Resort in Courtenay (Aug. 20-22).
He finished 25 strokes over par after three rounds and tied for 54th place.
“It was my fault. I didn’t go prepared.
I didn’t practice as much as I should have before I went. I wasn’t hitting fairways … nothing was going well for me.”
The boys’ side saw more than 100 junior golfers in the field. Jeffrey says he was looking for a top 15 finish.
Alex Francois of Burnaby won the tournament. Francois shot -8, and was one of three golfers to finish under par.
Although it was a disappointing few days of golf for Jeffrey, he was pleased with his putting throughout the second round on Aug. 21.
“I wasn’t playing good, but everything within 10 feet was dropping. That definitely lowered my score a bit. The putter saved me on the second day.”
It was Jeffrey’s first time playing the Crown Isle Golf Resort.
“It’s unbelievably nice Parts of it were challenging. You really need to draw or fade the ball really well. You needed to be able to manoeuvre the ball.”
He won’t be competing for prizes at the Cariboo Open, but he is hoping for a lower number on his scorecard.
“I’m hoping to play good. I’m practising everyday until then. I’m just going out there without high expectations and to play the best I can and get in a good placing.”
