The Valley Rebels encountered some early-season turbulence last week, dropping two of three games.
Abbotsford’s senior B men’s box lacrosse team fell 12-4 to the Ladner Pioneers on the road on Thursday before bouncing back with a 10-6 triumph over the Langley Warriors the next night at MSA Arena. But on Sunday, they dropped an 11-10 decision to the Royal City Capitals.
“It wasn’t pretty,” coach Jim Nishiyama noted. “We didn’t move the ball on offence, we weren’t playing decent defence, and we got into penalty trouble.
“We’ve got a lot of new guys, and they’ve got to get the chemistry going. I just think of it as a hiccup.”
The Rebels within striking distance vs. Ladner heading into the third period, trailing 7-4, but the Pioneers reeled off five unanswered goals to win comfortably.
Friday’s game was a similar story, but this time it was the Rebels stomping on the gas in the third period. Nursing a 6-5 lead heading to the final frame, they out-scored the visitors 4-1 from that point, highlighted by Sean Kelly’s third and fourth goals of the night.
They wrapped up the week with a narrow loss on the road to Royal City.
The Rebels (2-2) are off this week, and return to action at home on Friday, May 23 vs. the North Shore Indians (8 p.m., MSA Arena).
