Royals drop exhibition games to Blazers, prepare for Maple Ridge return

Victoria Royals prospect Tyler Soy looked like a veteran WHL sniper against the Kamloops Blazers

At just 15, Victoria Royals forward Tyler Soy is looking like a veteran WHL sniper. The Royals dropped its first two exhibition matches of the season to the Kamloops Blazers, 4-2 in Kamloops on Thursday (Aug. 30) and 5-3 in Maple Ridge on Friday.

Soy scored two slick goals on Thursday, wrist shots with a deadly fast release. He did so while wearing Kevin Sundher’s old number nine.

Seventeen-year-old Clay Spencer of Lethbridge, Alta., scored twice for the Royals in the Friday loss. Defenceman Kolton Dixon also scored on Friday.

The Royals practice in Victoria this week and will be back in Maple Ridge to host the Kelowna Rockets on Friday (Sept. 7).
