Royals earn first points of the year

After a lackluster effort caused the 5-0 beatdown Saturday night at the hands of the Central Zone team, the North Zone Royals hit the road

After a lackluster effort caused the 5-0 beatdown at home Saturday night at the hands of the Central Zone team, the North Zone Royals hit the road for the first time this season to take on the South Zone team in Penticton.

Harley Bootsma kicked of the scoring on a short handed breakaway when defenceman Ben Wardman made a great outlet pass. The hosts evened the score at one during the same powerplay. Aaron Plessis wasted no time in re-gaining the lead when he buried a beauty less than a minute later.

The rest of the game was a hard fought, chippy affair between two clubs who are not afraid of the physical side of the game.

Royals leading scorer, Dallas Stewart would score the Royals third goal of the game and help the team hold off the host team for the next 30 minutes to earn their first win of league play. Goaltender, Koltin Dodge was named the player of the game by his teammates.

The Royals play their last home game of 2016 this Sunday at 1:30 p.m. as they face the Thompson Zone team for the first time this year.

They will hit the road for the remainder of the year and return to home action on Jan. 7.
