The Ridge Meadows Royals midget triple A team used timely hitting and some dominant pitching to win a Sunday afternoon double header against the Nanaimo Buccaneers at Hammond Stadium.

Chad Weststeyn pitched all seven innings of the second game, and scattered four hits, struck out five, and walked none on the way to a 2-1 win.

He is leading the Royals pitching staff so far, having thrown 17 innings and allowed just one earned run, while striking out 21.

Weststeyn also led the way at the plate, going 1-for-3 and driving in both runs.

The first game was a 4-3 win. Tyson Floris went 2-for-4 at the dish, scored a run, drove another in and also had a steal. Floris is leading the team with an impressive .500 batting average on the year.

Josiah Williams also had a good day with the bat, with a hit and two walks in four trips to the plate. He also scored a run and had an RBI.

The Royals are off to a good start with a 2-0 record in the BC Baseball College Prep League, and they boast a record of 10-2-2 overall this spring. Their next action is scheduled for Saturday at noon when they take on the Whalley Jr. Chiefs at Albion.
