Rugby Golds stay strong against Kal

High tackles all around, almost heading instantly to the hospital is how the Kalamalka game started out versus the Junior Golds rugby team

High tackles all around, almost heading instantly to the hospital is how the Kalamalka game started out versus the Junior Golds rugby team.

Kal’s goon squad was made up of three Grade 10 boys over six feet tall. Referee James Cookson brought both team captains in and set the record straight.

The Kal players ended up in the sin bin more than once.  Golds capitalized on this and scored in the corner by Brayden McCarthy.

Missing by inches, Connor Benson had an enormous distance to kick for the conversion. Kal squeaked one running through their own team, much like a football blocking play to score in the corner.

Huge hits by Nathan Gollan and Jacob Yule slowed down the Kal team for Golds to keep possession and pin the Kal team into their end of the field.

Off the top of the lineout, Gollan spun the ball to Colin Pringle who spun it again to Chad Baker and Benson who ran down 40 yards of the field to be stopped again, so close yet so far.

Exploding over top of the rucks were Josh Cline and Clayton Leduc.  Kal scored again, finishing off the scoring to make it 17 to 10.

Next game for the Juniors is Friday, May 3 at the SASCU Sports Field at Little Mountain, 6 p.m. kickoff versus South Kam for a rugby game and social evening.
