The Nanaimo Hornets were swatted by the visiting team in their home opener on the weekend.

The Div. 1 men’s side (0-2), competing this spring in the B.C. Rugby Union’s Okanagan Springs Brewery League, fell 29-12 to Richmond (2-0) on Saturday at May Richards Bennett Pioneer Park.

The Hornets Thirds also came out on the losing end, falling by a lopsided margin to Richmond in the first half of the doubleheader.

The Hornets club has a bye week, then the women’s side holds its home opener Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. against Velox. The men are back at home Feb. 26.
