Jim McLean of the Oceanside Running Club was awarded the overall gold medal for the men’s 85-89 age group and ORCA teammate Jill Davies claimed the silver in the women’s 70-74 class for the recently completed Vancouver Island Running Association’s winter race series.

The awards were handed out following the final event in the series, the Sooke River 10K, and presented by Mark Nelson of series sponsor Front Runners.

McLean also earned gold in the Sooke 10K, with a time of one hour, 11 minutes and two seconds. Also winning gold for ORCA was Melissa Ross, who took the women’s 30-34 age group after covering the hilly course in 38.47. Davies added a runner-up finish for another silver medal.

The next event on the Oceanside Running Club’s calendar is its own annual Mother’s Day 10K and 5K run/walk, scheduled for Sunday, May 8.

Registration is now under way for the fundraiser for Parksville Haven Society.
