Saints, ’Tips net wins

On Saturday, the Saints dominated in their game against the Vernon Lightning.  Connor Kociuba scored twice in the first to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. The Saints then exploded for six goals in the second period with two each from Dominic Barbosa, Caden Sherman and Zander Stewart. Evan Smith’s shutout bid was spoiled in the third period with Vernon scoring two late goals, but Barbosa, Stewart and Kociuba each scored once more for their respective hat tricks in an 11-2 win.

On Sunday, the boys eked out a 2-1 win versus the Lumby Star. Matt Campbell scored in the first and Barbosa in the second, to take a 2-0 lead into the third period. Parent’s hearts on both sides were racing as Lumby scored with 52 seconds left, but the Saints held on.

Silvertips

The Salmon Arm Atom Silvertips, sponsored by L. Turner Contracting, played in their first, Tier 2 Tournament down in Penticton.

The Silvertips came out strong, winning their first game against Kamloops 7-5 Friday.

Early Saturday the team faced New Westminister, where they lost 5-4. Saturday afternoon the team faced Penticton where the ’Tips beat them 7-3.

The final game Sunday against Kamloops was very intense. At the end of three periods the teams were tied 3-3. Unfortunately the Salmon Arm Silvertips lost in OT, and came home with second place. The entire team played well, with excellent goal tending by Koltin Dodge.
