It’s been two years since Samantha Wright returned home from the World Archery 3D Championships in Latina, Italy, with a bronze medal hung proudly around her neck.
Wright, who earned the bronze medal in women’s open bowhunter competition, was thrilled with the bronze medal, but there was a touch of disappointment given she had gone into the elimination rounds in first place.
Two years later, Wright is counting on her experience and training to take her to the top of the podium.
“Whether I’ve done the work to keep my head in the game, I guess I am going to have to wait until I get there to find out,” Wright said.
“If I do everything right I see no reason why I can’t come home with the gold medal,” she said with guarded confidence.
“I have the skills.”
Thursday, Sept. 1, Wright began her quest for gold at the 2011 World Archery 3D Championships in Donnersbach-Planneralm, Austria, by firing a 184 to put her in fourth place.
Top scorer in qualifying was Lisa Sodersten of Sweden with 196 points.
The fourth-place finish puts Wright into the individual elimination rounds, Sept 2, with two rounds of 12 targets.
Semi-finals and final, with rounds of four targets are scheduled for Sept. 3.
