The Greater Victoria School Bike League season kicks off with its second annual BikeJam interactive festival at Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre on Friday (March 29).
Olympic road cyclist Erinne Willock is one of the many elite cyclists who will be on hand to instruct high school athletes with mini events on a circuit of varying cycling disciplines.
Cycling experts and top level coaches including Olympians Kurt Innes and Willock, national downhill mountain bike coach Geoff Pendrel, and the Trek Pro-City dual slalom team. They will introduce participants to the cycling disciplines of track, road, mountain bike, BMX, cyclocross, dual slalom, dirt jump, pump track, and para cycling and big air jumping.
“The School Bike League always focuses on the positive, fun aspects of competition, enabling kids to enjoy the racing experience and develop both their aptitude and self confidence,” said Eric Simonson, Oak Bay High teacher and commissioner of the SBL.
Festival favourite the Airbag of Champions will also be there to cushion some high flying tricks by stunt cyclists.
