Rookie Kienan Scott scored twice, including the winner with 20 seconds left, as the host Summerland Steam shaded the North Okanagan Knights 6-5 Friday night.
Scott, a 17-year-old Penticton product, became the first Steam player to reach the 30-goal plateau as Summerland improved to 26-14-1-3 in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
The Knights held period leads of 3-1 and 4-3, getting goals from Logan Geefs (7th), Tanner Burns (10th), Austin Garrington (3rd) Logan Mostat (8th) and Ryley Booth (4th).
Burns pocketed three assists, while Blake Culbert added a deuce.
Dylan Burton (2), Paulsen Lautard and Michael Winnitoy also scored for the Steam, who outshot the Knights 35-29.
The Knights, who called up Midgets Layne Greene, Brody Jennings and Kobe Oishi, dropped to 21-22-0-1. They didn’t lose any ground on the Osoyoos Coyotes, 6-0 losers to the Okanagan Division-leading Kelowna Chiefs.
The Knights are four points back of the Coyotes for third place and home advantage in round one of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Vernon’s Curtis Lazar posted his 28th goal of the season as the Edmonton Oil Kings stopped the Tri-City Americans 3-1 in Western Hockey League play Friday night before 6,800 fans at Rexall Place.
Lazar gave the Oil Kings a 1-0 lead at 7:46 of the second period. Lane Bauer and Aaron Irving also scored for Edmonton, while Brian Williams countered for the Americans.
Edmonton leads the Eastern Conference at 36-13-0-1, while Tri-City dipped to 25-22-2-3.
In Kamloops, the Blazers lost 4-2 to the Kelowna Rockets in front of 4,055 fans at the Interior Savings Centre.
Myles Bell and Justin Kirkland each supplied two goals for the Rockets, while Cole Ully had both Kamloops snipes. Jackson Whistle stopped 36 Blazer shots.
