The sun finally came out from behind the clouds for the finale of the 50th annual Seabird Island Festival on Sunday (May 26), which saw teams from across the province compete for first place prizes in soccer, three-pitch and war canoe races.
The festival saw 12 men’s teams and eight women’s teams compete for soccer glory over the weekend, as well as more $7,000 in prize money. The more than 34 kids teams in various age categories also competed for top place in their respective soccer tournaments.

War canoe races took place throughout the weekend, and saw competitors from as far away as Lumby, B.C. take to Maria Slough. Races started as young as the under 10 division, and canoes went from single paddle races up to the 11-man competition.
The three-pitch tournament was scheduled as a round robin between the six teams for most of the weekend, but Sunday evening the top four teams went head to head for just over $2,100 in prizes.
Final results from the Seabird Island Festival will be available in the coming days. Check this story for more updates when they become available.
