The Quesnel Sealions concluded their season Aug. 19 – 21 at the Provincial Championship meet in Coquitlam and did not disappoint as all 11 swimmers performed well on the big stage. Lauren Larsen placed 21st in the 100-metre individual medley, 23rd in the 50-metre freestyle and butterfly and 22nd in the 50-metre breaststroke.
Ava McGillivray finished 22nd in the 100-metre individual medley and 26th in the 50-metre freestyle. Owen Larsen placed 12th in the 100-metre individual medley and 50-metre backstroke, 16th in the 50-metre breaststroke and 19th in the 100-metre freestyle.
Shawn Fisher finished 20th in the 100-metre individual medley, 15th in the 50-metre freestyle, 19th in the 50-metre breaststroke and 14th in the 100-metre freestyle.
Lauren Pastachak placed fourth in the 200-metre individual medley, second in the 50-metre freestyle, fourth in the 100-metre backstroke and second in the 100-metre freestyle.
Casey Fisher finished 16th in the 50-metre freestyle, 24th in the 50-metre butterfly, 21st in the 100-metre breaststroke and 23rd in the 100-metre freestyle.
Lucy Jesperson placed third in the 50-metre freestyle, 10th in the 100 and 50-metre butterfly and 11th in the 100-metre freestyle. Audrey Jesperson finished first in the 200-metre individual medley, 50-metre freestyle and the 100-metre freestyle.
She also placed third in the 100-metre backstroke.
Baylee McGillivray placed eighth in the 50-metre freestyle, seventh in the 50 and 100-metre butterfly and fifth in the 100-metre breaststroke. The girls division five relay, which consisted of Lauren Pastachak, Casey Fisher and Audrey and Lucy Jesperson placed second in the 200-metre individual medley and first in the 200-metre freestyle, which just missed out on a provincial record.
It was a successful year in the pool for the Sealions as each swimmer experienced growth and development, which will only help them as they move on in their swimming careers.
