Season getting busy for United men’s soccer team

VISL Div. 3B side has league and cup games this weekend

You can’t win ’em all.

Although for a while it appeared that winning ’em all was exactly what Comox Valley United had in mind. The local side was sitting atop Div. 3B of the Vancouver Island Soccer League with a 10-0-3 record, and then along came the Castaways.

On Jan. 26, the sixth-place Castaways surprised United 1-0. The next day, Vantreights overpowered Prospect Lake 4-1 to move past United into top spot. Vantreights (11-1-3) has played one more game than United (10-1-3).

Comox Valley will be looking to regain a share of first place this Saturday, Feb. 2 when they hit the road to take on the last-place Victoria Athletics (2-15-0).

It will be a busy weekend for the local lads, as they also have a Pearkes Challenge Cup match scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 3

Forty-two teams from Div. 3 and Div. 4 have entered the cup competition. United (#12) meets SFFC Crush (#40) of Div. 4C in a play-in round game in Saanich. The Crush (3-9-2) are fifth in their division.

The winner will advance to first-round play (date and location TBA) against Juan de Fuca (6-5-2), who are fourth in Div. 4C.
