The Seaton Sonics were 2-1 after a thrilling Thursday afternoon match versus the Little Flower Academy Angels of Vancouver in the B.C. Senior AAA Girls Volleyball Championships at Okanagan Mission Secondary in Kelowna.
Little Flower upended Seaton 25-15 before the Sonics rebounded 25-17. Little Flower took the third game 17-15.
Little Flower is rated third in the province. The Angels swept the Nanaimo Islanders and Mountain Eagles of Langley in their opening preliminary matches.
Jeff Huggins’ Seaton crew opened the Sweet 16 by dispatching the Islanders 2-1 (23-25, 25-21, 15-11) and then grounding the Eagles 2-0 (25-13, 25-19).
The Seaton roster consists of: Maddie Findlay-Proctor, Kalli Hamilton-Gee, Kenzie Nieuwenhuis, Sam Scott, Emma Haner, Ellen Van Buren, Ella Oduro, Drew Barker, Dana Kievit, Rose Harned and Ava Haldane.
Meanwhile, the Vernon Christian Royals stopped Peace Christian of Chetwynd 2-0 at the provincial senior A girls tournament at Kelowna Christian School.
Vernon faced Carver Christian Phoenix of Burnaby and Centennial Christian Seahawks of Terrace in other Thursday pool play.
The Fulton Maroons and Seaton were looking at finishing a best ninth-place at the Big Kahuna B.C. Senior AA Boys Volleyball Championships at the Langley Events Centre.
Fulton, the Valley No. 2 seed, bowed 3-0 (25-23, 27-25, 25-16) to the D.P. Todd Trojans of Prince George in playoff action Thursday morning.
The Maroons earlier went 2-1 in pool play, sweeping the Mark Isfeld Ice of Courtenay 2-0 (25-20, 30-28) after falling 2-0 (25-20, 25-14) to the McRoberts Strikers of Richmond and 2-1 (24-26, 25-20, 15-13) to the Prince Charles Comets of Creston.
Seaton, ranked third in the Okanagan, also went 2-1 in the round-robin. The Sonics lost 2-1 (21-25, 25-21, 15-11) to the Lambrick Park Lions of Victoria and fell 2-0 (30-28, 25-18) to the Richmond Colts while icing Smithers Griffins 2-0 (25-18, 25-15).
The George Elliot Coyotes of Lake Country were one of eight teams left on the championship side. McRoberts met No. 1 seed Pacific Academy Breakers of Surrey in one of the quarterfinals.
