After trailing all game, the Seaton Sonics used the final minute wisely in stopping the host Kalamalka Lakers 65-63 in North Zone Senior AA Boys Basketball League play Wednesday night.
In other action, the Fulton Maroons ambushed the visiting VSS Panthers 85-57.
“It was a fast-moving, high-turnover affair with no one shooting the ball all that well,” said Kal coach Rick Serafin. “In the end, the Sonics wanted it more and scored when it counted in the last quarter. They outshot us 12-5 in the low-scoring fourth quarter.”
The Sonics were led by Chris MacEachran-Law, with 18 points, Kuup Peters, with 16, and Besim Maliqi, with 15. Paul Major drained 16 points for the Lakers, while Max Wilford and Tysen Christiansen each canned 14.
Next action for both Seaton and Kalamalka will be today in the inaugural Kal Lakers “Rock the Rim” Tournament.
Kal plays the A.L. Fortune Falcons of Enderby in their first game at 1:30 p.m. and Seaton takes on the Westsyde Whundas of Kamloops at 6 p.m. In other tourney games, the Rutland Voodoos meet the D.W. Poppy Red Hawks of Langley at 4 p.m. and the Pleasant Valley Saints of Armstrong take on the R.E. Mountain Eagles of Langley at 7:45 p.m.
The championship final of the eight-team affairgoes Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
Austin Richardson put up 26 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Maroons past the Cats. Dustin Popoff registered 20 points and 10 boards, while Stephen Porcaro had 15 points and a dozen rebounds.
Fulton opened the Sa-Hali Sabres tournament tonight in Kamloops against the Valleyview Vikings of Kamloops. The Maroons go up against the L.V. Rogers Bombers of Nelson at 10:30 a.m. and the Duchess Park Condors of Prince George at 5:15 p.m. in games today.
In senior girls tournament action tonight, the host PVSS Saints face the Golden Golden Eagles at 5:30 p.m.
The Saints square off against the George Elliot Coyotes of Lake Country, at 10 a.,m., and the Princeton Rebels, at 3 p.m., in Saturday games.
