The Selkirk College Saints Men’s Hockey program has secured a commitment from forward Darnell Dyck (Chilliwack, B.C.) to attend Selkirk College and compete for the Saints beginning in the 2013/14 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Dyck spent the 2009/10 season with the Trail Smoke Eaters, according to a press release from the Saints. He has spent a total of four seasons in the BCIHL. Overall, Dyck has 54 goals and 163 points in 230 BCIHL games.

“We’re thrilled to be adding an impact offensive player like Darnell to a very strong group of returning forwards,” says Saints head coach Jeff Dubois. “We were active in trying to recruit Darnell out of the BCHL last summer and I was very pleased when he reconnected with an interest in playing closer to home. He’s already spent a year competing against college-aged players and I’m sure he’ll be a valuable and productive player in our league.”

Dyck plans to continue to study Business while at Selkirk.

“I’ve heard nothing but good things about Selkirk College and the Saints hockey program,” says Dyck, who describes himself as a creative playmaker and a solid two-way player. “It isn’t a hard decision when you have the opportunity to play for a championship team. I want to do everything I can to help the team have another successful season on and off the ice and keep the winning tradition going in Castlegar.”

Dyck is Selkirk’s fifth commitment for the 2013/14 season, joining forward Garrett Kucher (Osoyoos, KIJHL), defencemen Stefan Gonzales (Aldergrove, PJHL) and Ryan Procyshyn (Delta, PJHL) and goaltender Myles Hovdebo (LaRonge, SJHL).
