The Semiahmoo Totems Grade 9 boys basketball team has a city title to add to its resume after a 58-55 win over North Surrey in the finals of Surrey Championships Thursday night.
Semiahmoo trailed by five points with just three minutes left in the game until going on a 10-2 scoring run to snag the win from the hands of their Surrey rivals.
Two members of the victorious Semiahmoo squad – Jairo Salazar and Brian Spanier – were named to the all-star team at the conclusion of the Surrey Championships, while Curtis Harvey was also named tournament MVP.
The Totems, coached by Paul Langton, now advance to Fraser Valley Championships later this week. Prior to winning the Surrey title,Semiahmoo went 7-0 in league play, and defeated Pacific Academy 44-41 in the semifinals of the Surrey tournament.
