Semiahmoo Minor Hockey’s peewee A2 team has scored a huge win off the ice.
The team of 11 and 12 year-olds collected 111 bags of clothes which they donated to NightShift Street Ministries, a non-profit ministry working with the poor, vulnerable and under-resourced men and women in the community, in response to a challenge from their association to get involved in the community.
“Having volunteered with NightShift Street Ministries, in large part as a continued tribute to my late father in-law who was a strong supporter, I approached our parent group about undertaking this task,” said Darryl Cumberworth, a parent/volunteer with the team.
“As is evident from the quantity of clothing collected and the support to serve hot food, it was fully embraced.”
The boys went door-to-door with brochures asking for clothes on Nov. 22, and a week later went through the neighbourhoods again with their parents to collect the clothing donations.
On Dec. 3, the bags were delivered to NightShift, and players joined NightShift volunteers in serving hot food to those in need.
