Senior A squad braces for next challenge

Now that the Nanaimo Timbermen have put their first win of the season in the books, they feel as though anything is possible. Like beating a very good Coquitlam Adanacs team this coming weekend.

The T-men (1-2-1) and Adanacs (3-2) meet in senior A Western Lacrosse Association action Sunday (June 12) at Frank Crane Arena.

“We’re going to do our homework and address a few things in practice and tailor our practices to what we’re going to see,” said Rob Kirkby, T-men defender.

The Adanacs bring a few different looks offensively. Timbermen coach Art Webster scouted the opposition last week and said both the left side, with Dane Dobbie and Daryl Veltman, and the right side, with Cory Conway and Peter Veltman, looked good, as did the transition game.

“We just have to take away their strengths and make other players accountable, and that’s what we’re going to do,” Webster said.

The T-men expect to have all their players available for the first time all season. But they know that full effort is more important than a full roster.

“We’re not going to win games if we don’t outwork teams,” said Matt King, Timbermen goalie. “We’ve got a lot of talent in our room but so do other teams, and Coquitlam’s one of them.”

Chris O’Dougherty, T-men defender, called this next game another test. “If Kinger plays the same way and we play aggressive on the defensive end, I think we’ll come out with the win,” he said.

GAME ON … The T-men and Adanacs play Sunday at 7 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena.
