The senior B Nanaimo Timbermen are working hard this off-season to make sure sports fans know what’s in store next summer.
The city’s West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association club is beginning its marketing push in advance of the 2018 Presidents Cup national men’s lacrosse championship. The T-men released a logo and promotional video for next August’s tournament.

“Right now it’s just showcasing what Nanaimo lacrosse is all about, getting people excited about the fact that we’re hosting,” said Shawn Swanson, general manager of the Timbermen.
He said organizers are looking for advertisers and sponsors, most of all a title sponsor.
The club is also working on lacrosse operations to make sure it has a competitive team in 2018, and Swanson said things are coming together well on that front. He said the intent is to fill the roster with as many high-end local players as possible, then fill in any gaps.
“There’s a lot of people kicking tires right now, wondering who else is playing, but the potential roster right now is as good as it gets with local guys and then we’re looking at a few guys from back east and the Prairies and stuff like that,” he said. “I will have some big names [to announce] in the coming weeks.”
