Senior B Timbermen tally 21 goals in blowout

Nanaimo won 21-5 against the Valley Rebels on Saturday in WCSLA action at Frank Crane Arena

It started out as a lacrosse game and ended up as blackjack.

The senior B Nanaimo Timbermen were 21-5 winners against the Valley Rebels on Saturday in West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association action at Frank Crane Arena.

Brad Mazzocatto scored eight seconds into the first period and Nanaimo built a 9-1 lead after one, stretched it to 16-4 after two and then eased up a little in the third.

Corey Shires scored five goals and added four assists to lead the onslaught.

Joey Fendick had three goals and three assists, Travis Mickelson had a goal and four helpers and Simon Stocks, Graham Palmer and Adam Backular-Evans each had two goals.

Dave Mjoen, Brent Holness, Darrin Wilson, Jonny Gill and Josh Joseph also tallied and Nick Patterson and Matt Zeller shared time in the crease in the win.

GAME ON … Nanaimo has one more regular-season game, hosting the Ladner Pioneers on Sunday (July 16) at 5 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena.
