Charles Hays Secondary School senior girls basketball placed second in their zones competition in Smithers on Feb. 16 and 17.
The team beat Caledonia in its first game 53-34 with Carly Cochrane (12) and Ruby Mason (9) as the team’s top scorers.

The Rainmakers lost their second game to Smithers 59-48 with Mason (24) and Cochrane (8) and Chantae Helin (7) leading the way for the team.
In their third game, the team rebounded to to beat Caledonia 45-32 with Mason (14) and Helin (12) leading the team in scoring, and setting up their final game against Smithers. Head coach Anna Ashley said the team, which was playing its fourth game in less than 24 hours, was battered, bruised and tired by the time the game started.
The Rainmakers fell behind early, and were unable to recover, eventually losing 64-29. Ashley said she was proud of the team despite the result.

“They were exhausted by the fourth game, and still went out there and battled,” she said. “We may have come in second, but as far as I’m concerned they will always be number one in my book.
“I am proud of each and every one of them.”
Both Cochrane and Mason received tournament all star honours.
