Senior Girls Soaring through a great season

The Golden Secondary School Senior Girls Volleyball team are one step away from the provincials.

It has been a dream season so far for the Golden Secondary School Eagles Senior Girls Volleyball Team according to Ron Ainslie, the head coach of the team.

The team has won three tournaments in Trail, Selkirk and Cranbrook, placed top four at Thompson Rivers University, collected a second place at the Banff Invitational and won our playoff division at KSS Best of the West.

The team is presently preparing to head to the Kootenay championships which are being held on Nov. 18 and 19 in Fernie.

“It has been a banner year for them. If we play like we did last weekend then hopefully we will come out on top,” Ainslie said.

The team is ranked number one in the East and West Kootenays and eighth overall in the province.

“They are super excited. They are really motivated right now. We have had a lot of compliments from parents, coaches and referees at how well they are playing and their energy on the court,” Ainslie said.  “They have shown incredible sportsmanship, along with their determination and heart in the face of adversity

He went on to say that for a coach this is a dream year to watch how hard the players have been working together both on and off the court.

“Just the thought of being able to go to provincials and compete is a dream for a coach. These girls are awesome. They are so coachable,” he said.

Ainslie also wanted to give credit to his first year assistant coach Krista Fouillard who has been helping with the team.
