The Serv-ivors, Smithers Secondary School Alumni  were the winners of the Second Annual SeaFest Grass Volleyball Tournament.

The Serv-ivors team of Marina Bell, Macey Hogg, Ryan Kunar, and Richard Chavez won the Novice Division with Hogg picking up an all-star nod.

In the Advanced Division, the SSS Alumni from Smithers were the champs. The team was represented by Trent Monkman, Matthew Fowler, Morgan Monkman, and Braydon Karrer. Trent Monkman was named an all-star.

Runners-up in the Advanced Division was the team We Rollin’ made up of Rupert players, Dave Pham, Andy Chu, Chris Stokes and Samantha Rosario.

Nancy Le, who organized the Seafest Grass Volleyball Tournament, said the competition is growing.

“This was my second year hosting the event and we were able to beat last year’s record of 47 players to 63 players (15 teams) this year,” Le said.

“The turnout was great and there were quite a few out-of-town teams that were able to take part. The vibe and atmosphere yesterday was amazing and it was nice to see everyone having fun out there. I couldn’t have done it without the help of our tournament sponsors and volleyball friends. Everyone was really supportive of the tournament and myself. I even saw a couple of the players repping West Coast Best Coast Apparel, a clothing brand that I’ve recently made.”

There was also a bumping competition for last year’s outdoor balls. The female winner was Lindsay Ewald and male winner was Kory McSorley.
