Ryan Anderson of North Delta dominated the competition in the pool, collecting seven medals in men’s swimming competition at the Western Canada Summer Games in Kamloops.
Anderson, 17, won gold medals in the men’s 200m breast stroke, the 400m medley, and with Team B.C.’s relay teams in the 4x100m and 4x50m freestyle, and 4x50m medley.
He also earned a silver medal in the men’s 100m breast stroke and 50m freestyle.
Danielle Kisser, also of North Delta, has won three gold medals and a pair of silvers in ParaSwim competition. The 14 year-old member of the Sunggod Swim Club won the women’s 100m back stroke, 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley. She added second place finishes in the 100m freestyle and breast stroke events.
Several other local athletes won medals in other sports.
BADMINTON
Christin Tsai won a pair of gold medals in badminton, defeating Jenna Koller of Alberta 21-9, 21-12 in the women’s singles final, and teaming with Nathan Choi to take top spot in the mixed doubles competition.
FIELD HOCKEY
Samantha McComb of Delta scored the only goal of the game, lifting Team B.C. to a 1-0 victory over Alberta in the final of the women’s field hockey tournament.
Molly Driscoll of North Delta netted three goals in the three round robin games. Team B.C. won all three contests without conceding a goal.
GOLF
Taylor Kim of Surrey went wire-to-wire to win the gold medal in women’s category. After a two-under par 70 in the first round, the 16-year-old member of the Surrey Golf Course fired a pair of even-par rounds of 72 to close out the tournament, finishing five strokes ahead of Jisoo Keel of Coquitlam (73-73-73).
Grace Chua of Surrey won the bronze medal, scoring 72-77-72 to finish seven strokes off the pace.
Surrey’s Donald Qiu took the silver medal in the men’s event, finishing eight-under par with roujnds of 69-70-69. He was three shots back of Mark Valliere of Nanaimo.
The 14-year-old also shared a gold in team competition, where Team B.C. was a combined 15-under par after two rounds, winning by 15 strokes over runner-up Alberta.
GYMNASTICS
Malcom Herbert of Surrey and Alexander Farquharson, 15, of Delta were part of the Team B.C. contingent which won team gold in the men’s gymnastics competition.
Herbert, 15, had the high scored on vault, was fourth overall on rings to tie for fourth in the individual all around standings.
In event finals, Herbert claimed a bronze medal on floor.
Farquharson was seventh all around among the 20 male gymnasts competing, his best result a fourth on high bar. He added two medals in event finals, winning silver on parallel bars and bronze on high bar.
RUGBY
Luke Zandbergen of Surrey scored eight tries in six round robin contests, helping Team B.C. to a perfect run through the competition in the men’s rugby tournament.
B.C. won all six round robin games, the closest margin of victory coming in a 17-7 win over Alberta in the last game. B.C. then topped Manitoba 32-0 in a semifinal game, then claimed the gold with a 41-5 victory over Saskatchewan.
SOCCER
A Team B.C. squad comprised almost entirely of players from Surrey/North Delta cruised to the gold medal in the women’s soccer tournament.
B.C. stopped Manitoba 3-1 in Sunday’s gold medal game.
Jasmine Mander netted one goal in a 4-2 win over Saskatchewan in Team B.C.’s first contest Thursday.
In an 8-0 win Friday over the Northwest Territories which clinched a place in the final, Surrey’s Jasmin Dhanda netted three goals, with Mander and Sessen Stevens – both of North Delta – and Kajal Parmar of Surrey adding singles.
Other locals in the team included Simmrin Dhaliwal, Samantha Dion, Chelsea Harkins, Reetu Johal, Monika Levarsky, Inderdeep Pamma, Karn Phagura, Herraj Sandhu, Priya Sandhu, Rabdeep Sandhu and Nicole Turney of Surrey, and Delta’s Alessia Azermadhi.
With two Surrey players contributing offensively, Team B.C. won the silver medal in men’s competition, falling 2-0 to Alberta in the championship game Sunday morning.
It was the first loss by B.C. in the tournament. Nicholas Prasad of Surrey scored in the 13th minute, a goal that stood up as the winner in a 3-0 win by Team B.C. over Manitoba Thursday afternoon. Nicholas Pineda-Graham added an insurance goal in the 36th minute.
B.C. then defeated the Yukon 2-0 Saturday to finish first in their three-team pool and qualify for the gold medal game.
VOLLEYBALL
Team B.C. clinched the gold medal with a 3-1 win over Manitoba in the women’s final. B.C. took the match 27-29, 25-18, 25-23, 25-15. They finished second in round robin play with a 4-1 (won-lost) record. Their only loss was to unbeaten Manitoba.

In men’s competition, Team B.C. won two of four round robin games, then defeated Saskatchewan in straight sets in the bronze medal contest. Surrey residents on the team were Jim Bell, Matthew Bonshor, Jeremy Fostvelt, Drew Ruby, Alexander Russell and Graham Stoliker.
