It was a beautiful afternoon as the Shady Rest Eagles 45+ kicked off their season against Port Alberni at the Qualicum Rec Fields.
The weather was perfect as both teams battled hard and played an even match for, which saw the game finish in a 2-2 draw, which Port Alberni scored in extra time.
Craig Gooding and Jim Wilson scored for the Eagles, who were missing some regulars and had one sub on the day, unlike their counterparts who had five substitutes and were able to keep the fresher bodies on the pitch throughout the game.
The Shady Rest has been sponsoring the football club since the 1980’s, with the club itself being in operation since the mid–1970’s. There are three teams in the club, over 35, over 45 and over 60.
