Shamrocks win, looking to continue streak in Game 3

The Victoria Shamrocks will have a chance to take a commanding 3-0 lead in their series with Burnaby tonight at the Q Centre in Colwood.

The Victoria Shamrocks have stretched their overall winning streak to seven games, with the last two wins in that run giving them a 2-0 lead over the Burnaby Lakers in their first round playoff matchup.

The 13-8 final score of Thursday night’s contest in Burnaby looks fairly comfortable on paper, but the clubs were tied 5-5 after one and 8-8 after two in what was mostly a back and forth affair until the Shamrocks pulled away in the final frame.

In the first minute of the third, Jeff Shattler and Jesse King notched goals for the ‘Rocks to put them out in front.

The club’s special teams took over from there, as Doug Langlois scored a shorthanded marker 3:21 into the period and Greg Harnett added a power play goal ten minutes later, giving Victoria a comfortable 12-8 lead.

Ethan Garland would add an empty netter to complete the scoring.

Adam Shute made 41 saves on 49 shots for the win, while Rhys Duch paced the Shamrocks offensively with three goals and four assists.

The two clubs will get right back at it tonight at The Q Centre as the Shamrocks will look to continue their winning ways and take a 3-0 stranglehold on the best of seven series. The opening face off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
