Centre Nick Mitchell scored four times as the Corbett Office Plus Sharks smothered DCT Chambers Marauders 8-3 in North Okanagan Bantam Super Hockey League action Saturday at Priest Valley Arena.
Sean Howard added 1+2, while other Shark goals came from Brennan Schwark, Troy Main and Brandon Lehoux. Seb Wenger pocketed three assists and d-man Tyson Sampert had two.
Tyler Riva and Rhys Larsen split the netminding as the first-place Sharks went to 10-0. Hedley Larsen’s Sharks open the 10-team Vernon Ice Breaker today at 4 p.m. against the West Kelowna Warriors (Civic Arena).
Josh Bridge, Landon Currie and Sam Frisby replied for the Marauders, who meet the Nakusp Falcons at 6 p.m. (Civic). Sam Knox make 42 saves to keep the score out of double figures.
Currie, meanwhile, introduced himself in a big way to the Winfield Bruins Sunday morning. The Marauders’ power forward scored all five goals in a 5-3 DCT victory over the second-place Bruins at Civic.
Currie, who missed the first meeting of the season between the two teams in November (a 6-5 Bruins’ home win), scored twice unassisted, while linemates Zach Agar and Cole Martin chipped in helpers on the other three markers for the 7-5-1 Marauders.
Marauders’ goalie Noah Foufoulas was solid, making a number of key stops, including a first-period penalty shot when he thwarted Keilan Cutting with his right pad on a forehand deke.
The Five Star Awards Cougars extended their winning streak to four games as they smothered the Salmon Arm Lumberjacks 8-0 Sunday in Sicamous.
Graham Moss fired up the Cougars when he buried a rocket in the first period. D-man Jacob Soucy fought hard to keep the puck in the offensive zone and fed Darius Stone, whose slap shot was converted by Chris Moore (2+1).
Soucy, pinching in from the point, and Moore, picked up assists as Talon Williams pounced on a rebound, putting the 8-3-1 Cougars up 3-0. Moore battled along the boards and the slot for the next snipe.
Nick Mann supplied his sixth goal in four games with a beauty shot on the powerplay. Moss and Maguire Dickinson were a deadly duo weaving the pucks in and around the Lumberjacks, capitalizing when Moss fed Dickinson for a gorgeous shorthanded snipe.
Reece Schroeder and Kaylan Lawrence scored the next two, with assists to Travis Aeichele and Stone. It was Reece Hawthorne’s second straight shutout.
Brendan Horsfield had 2+1 as the Interior Savings Giant iced the North Okanagan Knights 5-1 Saturday at Civic.
Jed Halvorson, Ryan Jakes and Tyler Semeniuk produced singles for the Giants (8-5). Devon Rempel replied for the 1-12 Knights.
The Bannister GM Heat started off the new year by tying Salmon Arm 5-5 in a Saturday Pee Wee thriller at Civic.
Hard-working Jaden Stone made it 2-2 with a bullet top shelf, assisted by linemates Brandon Dyck and Ethen Vryenhoek-Frank. The Heat fell behind in the third but Jaxxen Collard levelled things on a shot from inside the blueline.
Collard then scored on a rebound with assists from Shaelyn Cecchini and captain Jacob Baycroft, and 30 seconds later, Collard completed the hat trick. Goalie Aiden Spraggs made several huge stops in the final minutes.
The Heat (6-3-2) followed with a 13-3 destruction of the host Winfield Bruins Sunday.
Ben Reinhardt pulled the hat trick, while Will Higgins-Wilson pocketed a pair. Dyck scored his first of the season, while Marlea Best anchored a dynamic defence.
D-man Kevin Morgan collected 4+4 as Billy D’s Family Restaurant Xplosion bounced Butcher Boys Raptors 13-4 Sunday morning at Civic.
The Xplosion (4-5-3) rebounded from a 7-2 loss the day before to the league-leading North Okanagan #1 Knights (9-1-1).
Morgan scored three times on solo rushes, while the line of Dawson Martian (2+3), Quin Williamson (3+1) and Noah Clarke (3+1) combined for 13 points. Jacob Brewer, Derek Pereboom Caleb James and Ethan Schiman replied for the Raptors.
Said Xplosion coach Dan Wilson: “We were on a three-game losing skid and our goalie, Eric Foufoulas, made a pre-game speech urging his teammates to pass more around the other team’s net. The team went out and did it and Foufoulas was solid in net to earn the victory.”
The Xplosion got into penalty trouble and fell behind early to the Knights, who got 4+2 from centre Nick Walker and singles from Carter Hittinger, Rhys Smith and Brett Harder in front of a sharp Wyatt Fowler.
The second-place Lumby Green Velvet Lawn and Tree Care and Kineshanko Logging Ltd. Stars started the new year with a 9-2 win over Salmon Arm Askew’s Foods Sunday morning at Pat Duke Memorial Arena.
The Stars (8-1-2) were led by captain Tage Kineshanko, who erupted for five goals. Tanner Franje Gilbert (2), Matthew Yaremcio and d-man Jordan Romailler completed the Lumby attack.
Atom call-up Linden Catt and Romailler nicely combined to set up Kineshanko’s fourth snipe. Kineshanko got the hat trick on a deflected shot by forward Morgan Holland, fed by Vanessa Yaremcio, to end the second period.
Liam Macleod, Romailler, Vanessa Yaremcio and Gilbert all played marvellous defence in front of acrobatic goaltender Josh Litven.
The Lakeside Printing Blackhawks moved to 8-3-1 for a share of first place in the Atom league with Revelstoke Grizzlies by blitzing the Winfield McDonald’s #2 Bruins 7-0 and zapping the Winfield #1 Bruins 7-2 in road games.
Ronan Bedard (3), Alan Lewis (2), Tyler Kruysifix and Connor Cecchini handled the Lakeside offence Saturday morning, while Kruysifix (2), Bedard, Arianna Kositsin, Hunter Whiting, Rylan Petty and Lewis supplied snipes Sunday.
Jakob Aeichele was solid in net.
In other Atom action, the M&K Ready-Mix Rockets bowed 5-1 to the Revelstoke Grizzlies Saturday afternoon with Riley Kimble (Golden Moment MVP) taking a beautiful feed from Nolan Thomas for the M&K snipe.
Austin Siebel was amazing in goal, making some bold Hollywood glove saves. Recently acquired Scotty Hoffman, back in town after a year surfing in Australia, showed his speed and versatility getting through the Grizzly dee and ringing the post twice.
Brody Wright wired a pass through two defenders to a wide open David Ivanoff (Junior Viper MVP), who missed what would have been his first ever goal by two inches. Bradley Halvorson was solid on dee, while Dylan Wapple battled hard for pucks along the boards and made some great breakout passes.
The Summit Financial Atom/Pee Wee Female Lakers lost 17-3 to Winfield Saturday morning.
Josey Nerling scored twice and Camryn Beacom notched her first goal of the season. Robyn Alexis played solid dee in front of Shelby Richard, who made some great saves in her season debut as goalie. Freya Hale-Pearson earned the gold jersey for her hard work.
The Lakers then bowed 8-0 to North Okanagan Sunday in Enderby with Paige Brayshaw solid in net and Vanessa Kerr and Robyn Alexis providing stellar defence. Newbie imports Abby and Brooke Lawlor provided solid efforts as well with Brooke earning the gold jersey.
