The Corbett Office Plus Sharks are one win away from a perfect North Okanagan Bantam Super Hockey League season.
Hedley Larsen’s Sharks went to 17-0 Sunday afternoon by ambushing the Interior Savings Giants 15-6 at Priest Valley Arena.
Captain Nick Mitchell supplied five snipes, while Brennan Schwark added 2+3 and Sean Howard and Jake Pelletier each earned 2+1.
Tyson Sampert, Riley Bos, Reid Lawrence and Kevin Sullivan counted singles in support of Tyler Riva and Rhys Larsen. Brendan Horsfield (2), Jaden Steinke, Keefer Kaempf, Kayden Parton and Sean Reid replied for the 8-9 Giants.
The Corbett boys rallied to bounce the Winfield Bruins 8-3 Saturday night at PV with Schwark pocketing 3+3 and Bos bagging 2+1. Branden Lehoux produced 1+2, while Howard, Jonas Ramsey and Callum Leong had singles and Mitchell two helpers.
The Lakeside Printing Blackhawks went 2-1-1 at the Kamloops Atom Blast Tournament, opening with a 4-3 win over the Chilliwack Penguins on goals from Ronan Bedard (2), game MVP Seth Maglio and Alan Lewis.
Vernon tied the Kamloops Oilers 3-3 with birthday boy Bedard scoring twice and Hunter Whiting getting a single. MVP was Andrew Kositsin.
The Blackhawks then stopped the Kamloops Ice Hawks 5-3 with goals coming from Kositsin, Bedard, Tyler Kruysifix, MVP Rylan Petty and Maglio.
The Lakeside crew finished play Sunday by falling 6-4 to the Kamloops Rockets. Alan Lewis (2), Kruysifix and Petty handled the offence in front of Jakob Aeichele. MVP went to Arianna Kositsin.
In Pee Wee Super League play, the North Okanagan Black Knights toppled the Lumby Stars 5-3 Saturday afternoon.
The top two teams went back and forth through a scoreless first period before Lumby’s Josh Litven scored 45 seconds into the second, on a beauty pass by linemate Drew Mackenzie.
There were glorious chances going both ways before Stars’ goaltender Michael Preston was sent into the post, hitting his head before being on the bottom of a pile at 11:00 of the second, and had to be taken to Armstrong hospital.
Litven stepped up to change into net detective gear and was outstanding. The Knights equalized two minutes after play resumed, but the Stars’ Tage Kineshanko answered back.
The Knights (12-3-1) capitalized on the shaken Stars (12-2-2) and rung up three goals before Tanner Franje Gilbert responded for the Stars.
The third-place Stevenson Mechanical Thunderbirds made the best of a trifecta weekend winning two out three.
The T-Birds bounced the Butcher Boy Raptors 9-5 behind a Landen Harison hat trick and deuces from Brady Beacom and Jadon Foster.
Six T-Birds earned snipes in an 8-1 Saturday ambushing of the Bannister GM Heat.
Ryan Vandersande and Beacom each had a pair, while singles were turned in by Brayden Beese, his first league goal of the year, Sam White, Jadon Foster and Nick Tilby, his first goal of the year, plus an assist.
“Nick was one happy little player and all his teammates gave a high-five,” said coach Grampa Joe O’Hearn.
Chapperon Chillihitzia set Jaxon Collard up for a sweet Bannister goal. Heat goalie Aiden Spraggs was busier than a Mexican jumping bean on a hot rock.
The T-Birds were without five regulars as they bowed 6-4 to the North Okanagan #2 Knights Sunday night at Kal Tire Place.
Logan Shillington scored twice for the Knights (8-7-2), while Samuel White, Vandesande, Harison and Beacom countered for the T-Birds. Harison added two helpers.
The Billy D’s Family Restaurant Xplosion tied Salmon Arm Salmar Classics 4-4 and lost 4-2 to Askew’s Foods of Salmon Arm in other Pee Wee play.
The Xplosion (5-6-5) were leading 1-0 after the first period Sunday at Civic on a blistering shot by Quin Williamson. Noah Clarke, set up by Nick Hartwig, made it 2-0 in the second.
The Classics (4-9-5) equalized early in the third and it was 2-2 until the teams swapped three goals in 30 seconds with six minutes left. Salmon Arm counted a pair and Griffin Fletcher, assisted by Keenon Jeberg, tied it 3-3. The Classics went ahead, and with the Xplosion’s top-five playoff hopes on the line, goalie Eric Foufoulas made some timely saves and Williamson scored, unassisted, to level the score with 1:59 left.
Williamson, unassisted, with a heavy shot, late in the first period, and Aaron Jodoin, assisted by Zack Laranjo, midway through the third, collected Xplosion snipes Saturday at the Shaw Centre.
