Competitors from across the province gathered at Shawnigan Lake on Aug. 6 and 7 for the B.C. Provincial Water Ski Championships hosted by the Victoria Aqua Ski Club.

The event attracted 42 participants from clubs on Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and the Interior.

“It was pretty good,” Victoria Aqua Ski Club president Lee Curtis said. “We had a good turnout. It was very nice.”

Skiers of all ages competed in three events: slalom, jumping and trick skiing.

It was the first time in recent history that the Victoria club had hosted the provincial championships, which rotate throughout four regions in the province, and Mother Nature was cooperative.

“We had great weather conditions,” Curtis said. “It was very successful that way.”
