Shuswap Defenders shutout Jakes Pub in a 7-0 victory in men’s fastball action on June 30.
The game marked the beginning of two final weeks of the regular season for the 100 Mile Men’s Fastball League.
Quick to start, Allen Christopher for Shuswap scored a run in the first inning thanks to a runner batted in (RBI) by Steven Daniels.
Jakes Pub ended the inning right after Christopher’s run, but then the downslide began for the team.
Three throws out to first base ended the bottom of the first after just four Jakes Pub batters.
Shuswap came in and scored four runs in the second inning thanks to a triple and two RBIs scored by Mark Boyce.
Jakes Pub defense suffered from errors and late throws in the following innings. Its offence fell short as the second and third innings ended after going three up and three out.
Shuswap scored another run in the third, but then the team’s offensive onslaught began to quiet down.
The top of the fourth ended quickly for Shuswap with two pop flies and one throw out to first.
Jakes Pub attempted a comeback in the final three innings, but failed to capitalize.
Even after filling the bases in the bottom of the six, Jakes Pub couldn’t get a run in before the end of the game.
This game is the first in two weeks of make-up games. Due to several rainouts, the Men’s League season has been extended until July 9.
Playoffs are to begin the following week.
In the current standings, there is a close margin between the top 3 teams.
Jakes Pub leads the league with 15 points. Sanford & Dillman are right behind with 14 points. Shuswap is a close contender with 13 points.
100 Mile N’ Hour U16 sits in fourth place at eight points, while Exeter Sporting sits in last place with four points.
