Shuswap swimmers take 11 first-place wins

Team members took 11 first-place wins at the Vernon Kokanee Swim Club Spring Invitational Swim Meet, April 14-15

Shuswap Swimming Team members took 11 first-place wins at the Vernon Kokanee Swim Club Spring Invitational Swim Meet, April 14-15.The team took 20 swimmers to compete in the event, geared for first-time invitational level competitors to Western National qualified athletes. The team earned fourth place overall. • Girls 10 and younger  – Jenna Tiedeman earned 3rd place  in the 100-metre backstroke. Carrie Fromme earned 5th place in the 100-m breaststroke race, her best result at the competition.• 11- to 12-year-old girls – Morgan Rasmuson picked up 4th place in the 200-m butterfly race.  Lilli Rakose-Lund  came in 12th place in the 100-m butterfly, while Sandra Hall took 13th place in the 50-m backstroke. The relay team of Tiedeman, Fromme, Rasmuson and Rakose-Lund took 7th place in the 4 x 50m-medley.• 13- to 14-year-old girls – Bree Cooper won five races, the 100-m, 200-m and 400-m freestyle, and the 100-m and 200-m butterfly. Paige Coutlee picked up 5th place in both the 200-m backstroke and 400-m freestyle. The team of Coutlee, Rakose-Lund, Cooper and Hall scooped up 4th place in the 4 x 50-m medley relay.• Girls 15 and older  – Virginia Flahr the 50-m breaststroke. Jessie-May Baird earned 5th place in the 100-m breaststroke. The team of Cooper, Flahr, Coutlee and Baird were 2nd place in the 4 x 50-m medley relay.• Boys 10 and younger – Jacob Rambo earned 1st place in the 100-m butterfly. Ethan Flemming scooped up 3rd place in the 100-m butterfly, and Ethan Pyle 3rd in the 200-m breaststroke. • 11-12 year old boys – Ethan Quilty won 1st place in the 100-m breaststroke and 200-m butterfly races. Olin Mosher was 3rd in the 100-m butterfly. Ty Webster-Locke picked up 3rd place in the 100-m breaststroke. Jacob Bojey was 4th in the 200-m breaststroke and Torrey McKee was 6th in the 200-m backstroke. The team of McKee, Mosher, Webster-Locke and Bojey were 2nd place in the 4 x 50-m medley relay. • 13- to 14-year-old boys – Thomas Flahr won 1st place in the 100-m butterfly and 200-m breaststroke races. Logan Pilias was 2nd place in both the 100-m breaststroke and 200-m butterfly races. • Boys 15 and older – Jake Kitchen picked up 2nd place in both the 50-m freestyle and the 1000-m breaststroke races. The team of Kitchen, Pilias, Flahr and Rambo were 3rd in the 4 x 50-m medley relay. The top eight females and eight males, regardless of age, were brought to the blocks in the final race of the competition.  Bree Cooper picked up 2nd place in the girls’ race, while Jake Kitchen picked up 3rd place in the boys’ race.
