The Sicamous Eagles ended November with a 5-4 win over the Chase Heat.
The Eagles earned the win during the first two periods of the mid-week home game, Nov. 30.
Sicamous started the game with drive and determination to keep the puck in the Heat’s end. This was amplified after Alex Hartman potted the first goal of the evening off Wesley Howerton and Cameron Flinton.
About a minute after, Jace Woodley added a second to Sicamous’ tally off Dominic Dumas and Tyler Collens.
Less than a minute later, a two-minute boarding call for Collens left the Eagles shorthanded. The Heat was able to get the puck back into Sicamous’ end, and, following a short, unchallenged exchange in front of the net, drive the puck past goalie Josh Bolding.
With less than 20 seconds left on the clock, the Heat tied the game 2-2 going into the second period.
About midway into the second, Collens made a power-play conversion off Cody Milgate and Alex Astasiewicz, making up for the earlier penalty by giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead. About two minutes later, Woodley added another goal for Sicamous, with assists by Matthias Urbanski and Flinton.
The Heat were able to tie things up around the five-minute mark with back-to-back goals led by a power-play marker. The Eagles continued to put up a fight, and with nine-seconds left on the clock, found an edge and, inevitably, the game’s winning goal, in a marker by Dominic Dumas off Collens and Eric Porter.
The third period saw the Heat outgun the Eagles, with 12 to seven shots on net, but neither team was able to put the puck between the pipes. The end result was a 5-4 win for the Sicamous Eagles.
Dominic Dumas was named the game’s first star.
The Eagles are back on the ice tonight, Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m., when they host the Princeton Posse. The following night, the Eagles will be in Chase for a rematch.
