Sista’s play Kickers to stalemate

Sunterra Sista’s and OMG Chick Kickers battle to 2-2 draw in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer League Division 2 action Thursday.

The Sunterra Custom Homes Sista’s and OMG Chick Kickers battled to a 2-2 draw in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer League Division 2 action Thursday night at Marshall Field #5.

The Sista’s, who had just eight players show up in the rain, opened the scoring when defender Marisa Wiebe fed Madison Demers, who put a great through ball to Deanna Baker for a terrific 20-yard strike.

The Kickers equalized when striker Marie Jansen headed in a great cross from Tye Ayugust past keeper/sweeper Sherry Wiebe.

Cara Main and August assisted the Kickers’ go-ahead goal by Monica Holubowski with a high shot over keeper Jenny Curry.

The Sista’s equalized midway through the second half when Baker’s corner was tapped in by Tania Wirachowsky.

Madison Demers, Sharina Zantingh, and Andrea Zubot kept working hard for Sista’s by carrying the ball through the midfield creating many offensive opportunities.

Kickers’ keeper Wendy Nadeau had luck on her side with a little help from her back line. Strong support in the middle came from Nadine Krywonos, Jen Garnet, Holubowski and Bobbi Catt.

In Okangan Oldtimers Men’s 50+ League play, Vernon Kal Tire grabbed an early 3-0 lead and hung on to stop Kelowna 5-2 at Marshall #3.

Midfielder Jim Sparrow scored two goals before leaving the game with a pulled hamstring midway through the first half. Midfielder Denis Chabot also scored twice and took the Ramshorn Pub Man of the Match.

Kal Tire keeper Geoff Bradbury made a few tough saves and stepped up and drilled a penalty shot straight up the middle past a startled Chris Burkitt, for the eventual winner. The PK was awarded when striker Mike Lloyd, who ran miles, was pulled down. The tiremen are 6-3.

The Silver Stars used goals from Phil Fanfani and Colin Greveling in a 2-0 win over Lake Country at Beasley Park.

Fanfani scored on a breakaway, while Grevling converted a goal-mouth header. Jenne Hubert missed on a couple of solo chances for the 4-3-2 Stars, who owned the play.

It was a fairly quiet night for Stars’ keeper Ray Timms, who finished three chapters of the latest Harry Potter novel.
