Langley will be well represented at this month’s Canada Winter Games in Halifax.
Team B.C. was officially unveiled on Tuesday afternoon in Vancouver with 16 athletes from Langley and Aldergrove, as well as one local coach and another who is a member of the mission staff.
Karina Bakker and Sarah Beaudry will compete in biathlon, with Jana Bakker as a coach.
On the ice, Nikolas Wamsteeker will take part in figure skating, and in hockey, Kyle Burroughs, Brandon Potomak and Shea Theodore will play on the men’s team. Kirsten Toth is playing for the women’s hockey team.
B.C.’s ringette squad features a trio of locals, Elizabeth Dagg, Chantelle Fawcett and Kacy Hannesson.
Asquith Gibson is competing in Para-Nordic skiing.
Courtney Shmyr is taking part in short track speed skating.
Kathleen Auton and Colton Muench are on the target shooting team, while Kelsey Dick and John Kosterman will hit the hard court for wheelchair basketball.
And Robert Roy is on the Team B.C. mission staff.
The Games run Feb. 11-27.
