With the Cariboo Gold Rush Marathon just over two weeks away, adult cross-country skiers had an opportunity last weekend to hone their skills with one of the area’s most highly qualified instructors.

Gary Carlson shared his expertise with nine people attending a technique clinic at the 99 Mile Ski Trails. It put the focus on the essentials of skiing, such as weight shift, diagonal stride, striding uphill and double poling.

Participant Lauren Bock says they are techniques that when improved, increase enjoyment overall of the ski experience.

“It makes it more fun. Even advanced skiers are always working on improving their technique.”

She adds Carlson was able to break down each movement into segments and explain them thoroughly for the class.

“He is also very

talented at picking

out what it is that you need to alter to improve your technique. Our community is very fortunate to have access to his expertise.”
