The final round of drifting, drag racing and Time Attack took place at Saratoga on Saturday.
Cars from across the Island made the trip to Saratoga to put their skills on display, with many different varieties of cars arriving to put on a show, with Kal Tire sponsoring the fun.
With the Sun shining on the Speedway, track conditions were at their best for the three classes. In the Time Attack class, the battle came down to two high powered Mustangs in the V8 division. David Clark in his 400 horsepowered 2010 Ford Mustang would battle it out with Jason Johnson in his 444 horsepowered 2013 Ford Mustang. The two would end up seconds apart for first, with David Clark coming out victorious, setting the best time of 55.761, which is also the new track record for the division.
In the non-V8 division, the battle would come down between Brian Sallis in his 1968 Volvo and Tyler Bodkin in his 2005 Infiniti, with Sallis edging out Bodkin by the slightest margin – .049 of a second – to take home the win.
The drag racing on Saturday was set to a triple knock-out format with two classes, one being Slicks and the other Non-Slick. After many eliminations and some very tight drag racing, the finals in the Slick division would come down to Mike Weinraugh in his 1987 Monte Carlo SS and Corey Sandirson in his 1982 Chevy Pickup, with the win going to Werinraugh who never lost a single drag all night.
In the Non-Slick division, Johnson in his Mustang would find himself in his second finale of the night, this time battling Luke Brown in his high powered 2008 Chevy Silverado, with Brown taking home the win, barely edging out Johnson to take home the win. Some very tight Drifting took place in our Drifting class. The battle for the finale would come down to Reece Lucas in his Toyota Corolla, and Colton Brown in his Nissan 240sx. After a very tight battle, Lucas would manage to out drift Brown in the final round to take home his second Drifting event of the year.
Extra laps…Next weekend Napa Auto Parts presents the second to last race of the 2015 season at Saratoga. An action packed card will be put on with the Hornet cars, Roadrunners, Crash to Pass cars, Bomber cars and the I.M.C.A Modifieds putting on the show, which will all be capped off by yet another amazing Firework show. In the Modified division, only 107 points separate the top 3 cars as well, with Chris Beaulieu holding on to the lead, with Troy Tarbuck holding second, and Travis Stevenson in third.
In the other divisions, Ryan Guest holds a strong 270 point lead in the Roadrunner class, Sheldon Hopp holds a 250 point lead in the Crash to Pass class, #87 Boston Larson holds a 267 point lead in the Bomber class, and #53 Rowland Westra holds a commanding 633 point lead in the Hornet B class.
