The Williams Lake Run for the Cure saw a big turnout Sunday morning in Boitanio Park.

Organizer Courtnee Vreeman said she’s overwhelmed by the community support displayed at the Williams Lake Run for the Cure Sunday morning.

An event devoted to raising funds and awareness surrounding breast cancer, Vreeman said $10,976 was raised for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

“That was triple from last year’s donations and we doubled the turnout of people,” Vreeman said.

More than 200 participants took part in a five-kilometre walk/run through the streets of Williams Lake, beginning at Boitanio Park, donning bright pink and lively costumes to show their support on what was a bright, sunny day.

Vreeman, who lost her mother, Tracey Weins, to breast cancer on Feb. 14, 2016 said although Williams Lake is not an official host city of the Run for the Cure, the organizing committee has been working diligently to change that and are making strong headway in the process.

“It was a totally successful event and I’m overjoyed with the amount of community support I received,” she said. “I’m proud to be a part of something bigger than myself and proud to be from Williams Lake.

“I cannot wait for the coming years.”
