SLIDESHOW: Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club hosts Family Fun Day

Scenic Bull Mountain was the home of the Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club's Annual Family Fun Day Sunday.

Forty-three people didn’t let sub-optimal temperatures dampen their spirits when the Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club hosted its annual Family Fun Day at Bull Mountain Sunday.

Family Fun Day is an opportunity for newcomers to try out the sport for free with instruction from WLCCSC members.

“This is down from last year’s 49 but I think the -18C temps probably played a part in that,” WLCCSC executive member Kirsty Gartshore said.

“In other years we have had a few kids stay non-engaged and doubtful even after being out on skis but not this year. One of the little ones stayed out for almost two hours. He didn’t say much, he just wanted to stay on his skis, so we let him. I think every kid had a big grin on his or her face after coming in and several wanted to take the skis out again for another go around.

“When the kids are enjoying themselves the parents usually do, too, and certainly that was the case this year.”

Gartshore and the WLCCSC thanks Caribou Ski Source for Sports for donating the gear for participants to use.

Due to the late start of the season the WLCCSC hosted its first Jackrabbits youth cross country skiing program event this past Sunday, as well. Parents are still able to register by e-mailing skijackrabbits@gmail.com.
