Slo-pitch league filling rosters

The Nanaimo Adult Recreational Slo-Pitch League gets underway next week in the north end.

With springtime comes a new softball season in the city. The Nanaimo Adult Recreational Slo-Pitch League gets underway next week in the north end.

There are a lot of benefits to ball season. Most of all, said league president Hans Larsen, “it’s a great bunch of people to play with.

“A lot of camaraderie, and just the outdoors, the physical exercise,” he said. “Sometimes re-living a little bit of your youth – you find that some of those skills are often still there.”

Skill isn’t really required, though. The rule is that everybody plays and everybody takes at-bats.

“While we generally do keep score, at the end of the game that’s all forgotten and it’s just good fun and congratulations on the game,” Larsen said.

The league is for women 45 and over and men 50 and over. Games are every Tuesday and Thursday morning at the McGirr Sports Fields from mid-April until the end of September.

Registration is Tuesday (April 16) and April 18 at 9:30 a.m. at McGirr, with pickup games to follow on both days.

Cost is $70 for the season, or $40 for players who wish to sign up to play just once a week.

For more information, call Larsen at 250-390-2353 or past-president Dave Elmore at 250-754-0716.
